Well, what a week, I had the misfortune of downloading a computer virus a few days ago and sat at the computer and watched my anti virus get de activated and a load of pop ups telling me my PC was under attack and I should click the links to cure the problem.

The reality was that these pop up’s were also part of the virus trying to get me to click on links where I was supposed to buy anti virus software to get me to leave my credit card details. Lucky enough, I’m not that stupid and I have the luxury of having more than one PC connected to the net so I could do moreĀ  investigation as to how I was going to try and save all my data.

You guessed it, I don’t always back everything up. To cut a long story short, I had to wipe my hard drive and set it back to factory settings.

I lost everything, hosting details, passwords and account details, software and all back up files for my websites.

I am nearly back to normal now after 2 days and took this opportunity to re design my website. I also lost a load of junk on my hard drive that I would probably never use so, in a way, it has done me a favour.

Lesson learnt, Don’t download anything from people you don’t know and back up all data .

Regards

Martin
